There are manual focus alternatives out there, but I still feel there's a sizable gap. When the Sigma 30mm fixed FL lens in the 4/3rds mount arrived as a top of Sigma range EX designated offering with a Hyper-Sonic Motor for AF, I was more than. The Oly 17mm f1.8, whilst a nice lens, isn't really up to that job. What I'd really like is a 35mm equivalent for shorter ranges, but it would need to be faster still to match longer lenses for isolation. The Sigma obviously has less appeal for me since I already own the 25/1.4, but otherwise would appeal. That's an issue which presents a limitation to the usefulness of the PanaLeica too, but it would be interesting to see how these optics perform against each other. This lens will do even better due to its slightly longer focal length, but will be more limiting where space is tight. That's one of my favourite lenses for the format because it does offer in the real world enough focal compression to get nice subject isolation. F1.4 made it big that they wouldn't fit OSS.For M43 the closest this lens is equivalent to is the PanaLeica 25 f1.4. I would buy this lens, if sigma made it f/1.8 with OSS and similar size, while sharper and cheaper than Sony. With sigma 1/50 1/60 is your minimum speed you can handheld with a lot of risk. Sony will give a better picture when:ġ/15 f/1.8 vs. Because it's possible to take a sharper picture with Sony in low light handheld. As a Micro Four Thirds lens, how does it compare to the Panasonic Leica 25mm F1. Sony lens deserves to be mentioned better about these 2 points. The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DN DC Contemporary was announced in February 2016, and sits atop Sigmas line of DN mirrorless lenses, with a 2-stop advantage over their previous 30mm F2.8 offering. The 30mm /2.8 DN 'Art' lens provides a 45mm (35mm equivalent focal length) angle of view on E-mount cameras and a 60mm angle of view (35mm equivalent focal length) with Micro Four Thirds cameras. I carry around my a6300 because it's small. So, Sony 35mm managed to fit OSS in a smaller package than sigma (f/1.8 respectingly) makes a great deal of difference for us. On my a7rii I wouldn't ever place neither of these two anyway for different reasons. This is Apsc lens, and Sony does not provide in body stabilization for its Apsc line. The optical design features a pair of aspherical elements, along with one high-refractive index element, which significantly reduce spherical aberrations and.OMR 115,000. However, I read it entirely, and DPreview should have been a little more fair here. The question is, does the extra weight and lack of OSS keep it from topping the Sony as the ideal 'normal' for APS-C E-mount shooters? While heavier and much bigger, it is less expensive and brighter than the Sony 35 F1.8. The long barrel of the Sigma, and even longer overall dimensions do make it quite large in comparison to APS-C Sony Alpha cameras, but the weight isn't entirely off-balance. The only downfall in terms of build is the Sigma's lens hood, which doesn't seem to confidently click in to place, and is made of rather fragile feeling plastic. The rubber grip turns smoothly and easily with minimal effort, making the Sony feel a bit stiff. The focus ring is also an improvement, and a step above the Sony. Compared to older Sigma DN lenses, the 30mm F1.4 doesn't let its focus elements rattle about when unmounted, which is a very welcome change. I dont have 30/1.4 but have experienced back focusing issues with my 15/1.7 and 45/1.8 at close range. Sigma 30mm 1.4 contemporary - back focus issue Hey, I have purchased this lens. Sigma 30mm 1.4 contemporary - back focus issue. They both use a machined metal chassis with plastic internals. All forums Micro Four Thirds Talk Change forum. The difference between them doesn't suddenly open one up to a type of photography that couldn't be achieved with the other.īuild quality between the Sigma and the Sony is fairly similar. In stills terms, though, there's little real-world difference between the Sigma's 45mm equivalent view and the 52.5mm equivalent of the Sony. That alone gives it a better chance at being the preferred lens for video, although when shooting 4K the slightly wider FOV of the Sigma might fare better on any body that gives an additional crop. First, while the Sony is 2/3 of a stop slower than the Sigma, it does include optical image stabilization. In terms of just spec we see a couple of major differences. 1 aspherical and 1 double-sided aspherical
